Need Extra Cash during CoVid 19 Lockdown? Here’s 8 Work from Home Ideas to Try!

As coronavirus cases continue to rise in the Philippines, the government advised millions of Filipinos to stay inside and work from home. However, this is not applicable to everyone’s nature of work. In fact, for daily wage earners, the enhanced community quarantine announced by President Rodrigo Duterte only means one thing—no work, no pay.

This is bad news, especially since it might be for an extended period of time, in which thousands (if not, millions) of workers have no choice but to stay inside. Fortunately, there’s a lot of work from home options that can help you earn extra money during this public health crisis. And while some require at least an educational background or any related experience, others are perfectly suitable for almost anyone. To get started, here are 10 ways to earn money from home!

8 Ways to Earn Money from Home

1. Be a Customer Service Representative

With the Philippines dubbed as the new call center capital of the world, Filipinos would surely find plenty of home-based job openings as customer service or technical support representatives.

Applying for this job is fairly easy as no specific level of education is required. All you need is a good grasp of the English language and familiarity with software apps in order to be a call center agent at the comforts of your own home. Of course, having prior experience in the BPO industry (customer service/live chat support/email support) is a big advantage. Just sign up on freelance work from home websites like UpWork, create an impressive profile and apply to many job openings as you can!

2. Try Online English Tutoring

Do you have an excellent command of the English language? You’ll be surprised to know that you can easily qualify as an English as Second Language (ESL) tutor to international students. You can even be hired on-the-spot if you can speak English fluently in an American accent.

Typical responsibilities of this job include conducting one-on-one online lessons with a foreign student via audio or video call as well as evaluating the student’s performance and giving constructive feedback.

Tip: Knowledgable in subjects such as Math or Science? You can also apply as a home-based academic tutor to both local and foreign students struggling with such courses.

3. Sell Food Online

If you have a knack or talent in cooking, this is the best time to make use of that skill! Given that people are advised not to go out to buy their own food nor buy ingredients for cooking, you can either offer cooked or ready to cook food. Just create a page on Facebook or Instagram, post photos of the food you’re selling and start accepting orders!

Just be mindful of proper food handling. During this time, we don’t want to spread anymore virus as we already have enough.

Tip: If you think you don’t have enough audience or nobody will buy from you, try Facebook or Instagram’s sponsored ads to widen your reach and target specific audiences.

4. Become a Social Media Assistant/Manager

Don’t just spend your time on social media platforms! Try earning extra money as a remote social media assistant.

Even if you don’t have much experience and technical skills, you can be hired as one. Just make sure you have at least organization skills (to manage and oversee social media content) and the right amount of creative skills (to come up with witty and engaging content ideas). Of course, years of experience in social media marketing can put you at an advantage and you can even be hired as a social media manager.

5. Stream Your Video Gameplays

Playing Dota or Mobile Legends all day won’t earn you money. However, if you try to live stream and share your video gameplays in platforms such as YouTube, Facebook or Twitch, you can profit from ads, views, subscriptions, sponsorships, and affiliate sales.

All you really need are gaming skills and the ability to engage with an audience and you can easily earn money. After all, four in every five millennials play online video games so there’s plenty of profit-making opportunities for Filipino gamers.

6. Apply as a Content Writer

If you have a knack for writing, you can easily find home-based job openings as a writer, particularly SEO and web content writing. Even if you have little experience, as long as you can write well in English, you can start working from home and earn money.

Daily responsibilities typically include researching, writing, and proofreading content for blogs, landing pages, and e-commerce websites.

7. Unleash your Inner Vlogger

Another way to earn money from home is by vlogging. You can simply create your YouTube account and channel as a start. Realistically, this is not something that will provide you with cash instantly. You need to familiarize yourself with all the knitty gritty that YouTube requires in order to start monetizing your channel.

Since I’ve done this quite a while now, (pero hindi ko kina-career masyado), I’ve written another blog post that would guide you in starting your Vlogging career. Check out Video Marketing 101: How to Earn Money from YouTube.

8. Start a Blog

This work from home idea involves writing blog posts for your own blog. You can monetize your blogs in so many different ways such as advertisements, sponsored content, and even selling products (affiliate stuff, e-book, etc.). You can even make passive income just by having banners ads on your blog! Again, like Vlogging, this also requires hard work. Here’s a great content on How to Make money with your Blog.

There are plenty of home-based job opportunities for almost every individual. These not only offer that much-needed freedom and flexibility from the typical nine-to-six job but they can also pay the same (and most of the time, higher) salary.

I hope you all are safe in your homes during this difficult time. If you like this blog post, feel free to share it to someone who you think might need it. God bless you all!
