How to Tell Real vs Fake: Hermes Evelyne III

When one hears the luxury brand “Hermes,” you might be immediately thinking about the most famous (and arguably, the most luxurious and expensive) Hermes bag styles such as the Birkin and Kelly. However, the casualness of the Evelyne bag has captured a lot of bagaholics as well. With its thick shoulder strap perfect for crossbody wear and a range of colors and fabrics available, the Hermes Evelyne can be worn by both women and men alike.

Unfortunately, due to its popularity, there are many people who are actually selling fake Hermes Evelyne bags. In fact, one of my clients who took her bag at my consignment store was one of the victims of these scams. She paid about ₱120,000 ($2,355) for it and upon authentication through Entrupy, I found out that her bag is actually a counterfeit.

That’s why I asked her permission if it’s alright to share the details of her replica bag in order to inform other luxury buyers out there and minimize the chances of being scammed. So here is an article about the basic facts to know about Hermes Evelyne, as well as some points to help you identify a fake from an authentic Hermes Evelyne III.

5 Things to Look Out for in a Fake Hermes Evelyne III

1. Hermes Front Logo

The Hermes Evelyne III bag has the iconic perforated ‘H’ logo in the front part of the bag. This is one of the first things you should look out for when buying a secondhand Hermes whether in a physical store or online. Fortunately, when you look at these bags side-by-side, the difference of their front logo is very visible and obvious.

The fake Hermes Evelyne has bigger holes compared to the authentic bag. Just simply examine the holes making up the ‘H’ that are lined up in a vertical position and review the horizontal holes. You’d definitely see a difference in their sizes, resulting in an unaligned and uneven ‘H’ logo on the replica bag.

On the real Hermes Evelyne, the way the holes are perforated is done perfectly, leading to evenly-sized holes at the front logo.

2. Front Clasp

This part of the bag is also fairly easy to check when buying a Hermes Evelyne bag.

First, turn the clasp on the opposite side (backwards) then look underneath it. Next, check if it has an engraved “YMPR” on the hardware. If your bag has this specific detail, then you’re actually looking at a real Hermes Evelyne.

The fake Evelyne’s front clasp doesn’t have these engraved letters on its hardware and overall feels cheap and flimsy in comparison to the clasp of the authentic. I also noticed that the real one has a gold hint on the silver-colored front clasp while the counterfeit is pure silver, almost matte grey.

3. Hermes Paris Imprint

Another thing you need to look out for is the Hermes Paris Imprint. Despite all their efforts, most super high-end fake bags couldn’t perfectly replicate the real Hermes stamp on their bags.

On the counterfeit bag, the font used for the iconic imprint is visibly bigger and faded. As for the original Hermes Evelyne, the stamping is usually clean and perfect and uses a smaller but thicker font.

Overall, if you see that the imprint is faded and uses a bigger yet thin font, it’s a dead giveaway that your bag is fake.

4. Shoulder Strap Leather

Other fake Hermes Evelyne can’t actually duplicate the original bag that well. In fact, most of them don’t have the logo imprinted at the shoulder strap leather, making it easier for you to spot a replica from the real deal. However, there are still some (mostly high-end counterfeits) that has this logo.

Like the Hermes Paris imprint on the front part of the bag, you should also look for the same indicators that your bag is fake. Again, this includes a bigger font size but thin letter strokes and an overall faded appearance.

Aside from this, another sign is the location where the logo is imprinted on the leather part of the shoulder strap. The real one has the stamp at the center while the fake Hermes Evelyne has it at the upper portion of the leader.

5. Dust Bag

At first, I wasn’t gonna recommend checking the dust bag that comes with the Hermes Evelyne. This is because I know a lot of sellers are actually buying original dust bags from Hermes to include in their high-end fake bags. Having said that, I did notice a difference in the dust bag my client has.

Look at the Hermes logo found on the front part of the Evelyne’s dust bag. If you see a reddish undertone, that’s a fake one. Note that the authentic uses pure deep brown color. You should also check out the canvas material. The fake one has an almost white color while the real has a brownish tint.

With Hermes producing one of the most expensive luxury handbags, there are many fake Hermes bags circulating the market. So for all the buyers out there, be cautious and inform yourself with these 5 tips especially when buying the Hermes Evelyne.
